This charming Chateau has been in the same family since Philippe des Forts’ grandfather started construction of the main building at the beginning of the 19th Century. Successive generations added features and renovations including an extension. The Chateau was finally completed in 1898. Of particular note are the hall, staircases and dining room which were redesigned in 1910 with arches and brick patterning in the style of the Norman arts and crafts movement prevalent at the turn of the century. Standing in its own park the Chateau de Yonville is surrounded by mature trees, many over a hundred years old. Opposite the Chateau stands the Coach-house in beautiful half Norman style. On the other side of the Park there is a charming country Gite surrounded by pasture and woodland. The Park and surrounding countryside teems with wildlife and offers the visitor a tranquil oasis in the midst of the rural beauty of the plain of Picardy. Yonville is a short drive from the coast and the gastronomic restaurants in the pretty medieval port of St Valery sur Somme and quaint fishing village of Le Crotoy. The renowned nature and wildlife reserves of the ‘Cote Picarde’- The Marquentaire and the Baie du Somme are the largest in Europe. |
